My personal experience in CSS
Sunday, May 25, 2008
10:31 PM I realised that the blog entries have been missing this "personal touch". It is informative and that's all. Since FOC is here very very soon, i thought i shall share my personal experience in css. Hello! I am Charlene, the co-head of publicity for FOC. You can say that i am still fairly new in css. I only became active in the beginning of this year since i started school last august. Yes, i was apprehensive about joining css initially as i didnt want to be in some 'boring', 'holy-moly' cca. However, what utimately draws me to css is this close knitted community that i can rely on. University life is very different from the school days which we used to have. There is no class you can call your own and your group-project mates/tutorial classmates(cant really be called your friends) changes every semester. There are times that you have to take lunch all by yourself if your friends are having lectures. (it is very unlikely that you and your friends have the same timetable!) My first semester last year wasnt exactly that interesting when i chose to stick to my best friend and a few others all the time. I wasnt too keen to making superficial friends too. For me, i guess it also becomes more difficult to find genuine friends as you grow older and more wary of people. And of course, i was very wary of the css people at the start when i first started to know them. However, time and my experiences with them has proven that they are indeed a group of friends that i dont mind sincerely befriending them and being part of the community with. Perhaps, it also due to our common faith that brought us closer together as we tend to have similar sets of beliefs and expectations towards life. It is a very very big community and i am still making new friends in this community up till now. As a community, we have common haunts in school where we take our lunch together in the canteen or study together in the library. My semester 2 has become much more lively because of this community. Needless to say, my faith has also grown stronger from the sharings and pray-over sessions we have together. CSS didnt turn out to be a 'boring' and 'holy-moly' cca i thought it would be; we had our fair share of fun in school and outside. Recently, we went on a kayaking course together. Our 21-year old instructor couldnt believe that we are from the catholic society and we certainly changed his sterotype image of students who join such cca are dull! ahahaha! Planning and preparing this camp is my way of giving back to this wonderfully made community. I joined the main commitee for this camp and became particularly closer to some of the members there. I got to know my 'other half'/ pub co-head,Germaine,alot better. Both of us are the ones in-charge of posters, planning tri-varsity outreach, printing shirts and most importantly getting the freshies to come for the camp! The work may something be very tiring and stressful at times but i am truly thankful for Germaine who supported me in the times when i am tired and the crazy times when we just burst out laughing over matters. CSS is my community in NUS and I am proud to tell my friends that i am from there as much as it can be very shocking to my friends who never expected me to join this cca. It is a choice i made and have not regretted. 2 conqueror(s) 2 Comments:
